Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, written by Edward Albee, is a well respected play of the American theater.It has the ability to convey a dark but deeply human look at marriage, illusion, disappointment, and desire.
Performances are at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) now though September 27th. It runs for 3 hours and 10 minutes with two 10 minute intermissions.
Press notes describe it in this way: “Over the course of one unforgettable evening, George and Martha invite a younger couple into their home for what begins as a friendly late-night drink and spirals into a devastating battle of wit, truth, and emotional reckoning.”
“This play is one of the most ferocious battles of love, wit, and creative power ever put on stage,” said director Nisi Sturgis. “It is funny in every sense of the word — hilarious and peculiar. Thrilling as a car crash, its magnetism doesn’t let us look away as it explodes the facade to reveal raw truth.”
The cast includes Antoinette LaVecchia as Martha. Andrew Borba plays the role of George. Abby Burris plays the role of Honey and Michael Underhill portrays Nick.

Stop off at the libations table where you will find two Specialty Cocktails. You can raise a glass to Truth an Illusions which are the colorful names drinks inspired by the delicioussly blurred line between the reality and fantasy in the show. I sampled Truth and I became a believer.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf runs at the STNJ now though September 27, 2026 on Tuesdays through Sundays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays, and select Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m. Their location is the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, 36 Madison Ave,, Madison, NJ on the campus of Drew University.
